Description:The Furlong Tile Works was on the east side of Newport Lane just before the junction with Furlong Lane. Just beyond the works is the White Swan public house which was originally two small houses until combined and surrounded by tile works. Next door to the White Swann and just before Furlong Lane was a newsagent and tobacconist. Both these buildings remain although the tile works has been demolished.

At the time of the photograph, the works were operated by T A Simpson & Co. tilemakers with works in Hanley and Stoke. Parked in front of the office entrance is an Austin or Morris Mini van, a commercial development of the Mini saloon.
