Description:looking along Pack Horse Lane from the Fountain Place area. The bottle oven belongs to Ford's Pottery (Lower Manufactory) on Newcastle Street and the gates in the centre are the original gates to Enoch Wood's Fountain Pottery. On the left is the base of Enoch Wood's windmill. The Fountain Place works date from 1789 and the windmill was used to draw water for the potworks. The mill drew more than was needed and the surplus was pumped to a public fountain near to the front of the works on Fountain Place. The modified front of the Fountain Place works is a grade II listed building in Fountain Place. Wood left the works in 1850 and it was subdivided into smaller pottery units. The site has been cleared although the low wall on the left still stands.
