Description:Doulton's site in Nile Street, Burslem. The works was taken over by Henry Doulton, moving from Lambeth in London, in 1877. The Nile Street site previously occupied by several potters including the Riley Brothers and Thomas Pinder. Doultons expanded the site by building new potworks and buying up neighbouring existing works such as the Kilncroft, in Chapel Lane, and Sylvester Pottery. By the end of the 19th century the Nile Street works was employing over 1300. The company continued to expand in the 20th century producing high-quality bone china and receiving the Royal Warrant in 1901. Royal Doulton joined with Mintons and Royal Albert in 1968 and 1971.
The Nile Street works closed in September 2005 when Doulton's moved production to Indonesia, and demolition started in 2008.
