Description:The photograph shows the view west along Newcastle Street, up the hill towards Burslem. St Paul Street on the left lead to St Paul's Church. The buildings just beyond and along it have been demolished and replaced with housing. On the right, the shops frontages remain much as they are in the photograph. The public house, the Croswell Arms, has become the Jolly Carter.

Brocklehurst's newsagents shop on the corner of St Paul Street, now demolished, has a range of 1960s advertisements.
