Date:November 1963

Description:Beehive kilns at Sneyd pipe works as seen from the Potteries Loop Line, just north of Hot Lane. The works lay to the west of the line, behind the camera would have been Sneyd Colliery and Brickworks. Behind the middle chimney is the tower and roof of Burslem Town Hall. The pipe wroks site today is a mix of industrial and commercial uses.

Clay was the traditional material for making pipes to drain fields or sewage, now largely replaced by plastic. The method of making clay pipes was similar to making bricks. Both were fired in beehive kilns. This part of the Loop Line is now the Burslem Greenway, and Hot Lane bridge still carries the walkway over the road.
