Description:The photograph was taken from the junction of High Lane and Greenbank Road, looking west towards Tunstall. The building half seen on the extreme right hand side is an electricity sub-station built in "mock tudor" black & white style in the early 1930s. The houses on the left hand side of the road date from around the same time, those next to the substation are a little earlier.
Mostly hidden by the second roof on the right is one of the copper domes of the Sacred Heart Church. Down in the bottom of the valley is the Alexandra Mill, part of Johnson's Alexandra Pottery. The church spire beyond belonged to the now demolished St Mary's Church. The coal tip behind is near Red Street.
