Description:Seen from Cross Hill, the three buildings are all that remain of the Acme Marls site in Burslem. Built between 1937 and 1947, they are free standing circular hovels surrounding downdraught ovens. They are the only remaining downdraught ovens still standing.
Downdraught ovens used heat more efficiently than updraught ovens and were developed in the early 20th century. Both type of ovens look the same but the draught is controlled so that the heat first rises and then is forced downwards again around the ware, using heat more efficiently. The ovens are grade II listed buildings.
