Description:The photograph was taken from the corner of Benson Street and St Michael's Road, looking north towards the High Lane roundabout (out of sight). The white building is the Hope and Anchor public house, now demolished to make way fro the roundabout on James Brindley Way.

Originally known as High Street, the houses and shops date from the 1880s and 1890s, although the Hope and Anchor pub is earlier.
