Description:The camera is looking north east from the area of the Scotia Colliery spoil tip towards the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on Queen's Avenue in Tunstall. The photographer, Bert Bentley, noted that .."the slag and dirt tips give an admirable viewpoint (north) over the town". Today the area is part of Scotia Park.

In the foreground are the wharf sidings of Chatterley Whitfield Colliery, with National Coal Board wagons. The houses in the foreground are on Huntilee Road and more houses have since been built over the area of the railway sidings. The tall chimney beyond the church is probably the Greengates Pottery on Furlong Road. The Church of The Sacred Heart was opened in 1930 and is notable for the series of copper domed roofs.
