Description:In the centre of the photograph are buildings numbered 20 to 26 Ladywell Road (originally Sneyd Street) awaiting demolition in the 1960s. This is the southern end of Ladywell Road, close to the junction with High Street. The road off to the right beyond the terrace is Rattenbury Street (renamed from Smith Street in the 1950s). This has been completely removed and the area redeveloped with houses in Madeira Place. The houses in the photograph have similarly been replaced with modern housing.
In 1912 The building on the corner (number 26 ) was a Beer House (Crown Inn), next door was a sweet shop then number 20, another Beer House (the Buck Inn) and the shop on the right hand edge, a bird and seed dealer (in 1964, a general store).
