Description:The farmhouse and outbuildings at Fir Tree Farm just off Whitfield Road in Ball Green. The stone house and cottage in the centre of the photograph date from the early 17th century and are grade II listed buildings. Both buildings show signs of mining subsidence from neighbouring Chatterley Whitfield Colliery. Just right hand edge of the photograph is the slope of a colliery spoil tip.

There has probably been a dwelling on this site for over 700 years which overlooks the valley of the Ford Green Brook. The houses seen through the trees on the higher ground on the other side of the valley are in Chell Heath.
