Description:Lower House Farm is one of the oldest houses in Stanley, dating from around 1700, but built on the site of a medieval manor house. This is the view north east towards the Moorlands and Peak District. The conical peak in the centre of the photograph is Shuttlingsloe ("Macclesfield Matterhorn"), a 500 metre (1600 feet) gritstone peak. Towards the left is the higher ground of The Roaches, a rocky gritstone ridge north of Leek, up to 500metres high. The farmyard wall in the foreground is built from gritstone.
