Description:The Baddeley Green Pottery and Mill belonging to Swinnertons (Earthenware Manufacturers) on Leek New Road. The flat topped chimney to the right is the flint calcining kiln. Swinnerton's mill in Boundary Street, Hanley was proving too small, hence the move to Baddeley Green in 1953. This move to a greenfield site had parallels with Wedgwood's relocation in Barlaston.

The mill here supplied the Vulcan and Victoria Potteries in Hanley and Burslem as well as other factories in the group. Until 1974, the factory produced earthenware but then diversified into bone china under Doulton's management. As part of the Royal Doulton Group, the factory ceased production in December 2002. The site is now housing.

Norton Lane runs along the higher ground in the background with Norton le Moors Primary School just to the right of the two prominent houses. Norton Colliery waste tip appears at the extreme left edge of the photograph.
