Description:Looking southwest along Wilson Road from the Church Lane crossroads. Church Lane is off to the right and Queen Mary Road to the left. The two cottages on the corner have been replaced with modern housing, but the right hand side of Wilson Road remains much as it was when the photograph was taken. The houses along Wilson Road date from the 1920s and 30s, when the local authority built nearly 160 houses, creating the Wilson Road estate. Before this, Wilson Road was known as Back Lane.

The two corner cottages and the gas lamp standard date from the nineteenth century. In the dim distance is the higher ground of Hanchurch.
