Description:The junction of Whitehouse Road and Leek Road (A5009) in Abbey Hulton. On the left, on the corner, is a co-op shop, a branch of the Burslem and District Industrial Co-operative Society. Founded in 1901, the Burslem Co-op was the most successful Co-operative Society in the Potteries. The building was demolished in 2002.
Abbey Hulton became part of the Borough of Stoke on Trent only in 1922. The houses on the other side are part of the estates of over 600 houses built by the City Council in Abbey Hulton in the 1920s and 30s.
