Date:August 1964

Description:A view west along London Road at the corner of Trent Valley Road. The Bass sign, on the right, is linked to The Oak Tree public house. At the extreme edge is "outdoor sales", where alcohol was bought for consumption "off the premises".
On the left, the pattern of mixed housing and shops is much as it was in the 1960s with minor changes to shop fronts.
The van parked on the corner is from "Betty Plants", a local sweet and toffee maker based in Morley Street, Hanley.
