Description:This photograph shows the view north along the Trent & Mersey Canal from Stoke Bottom Lock (Lock 36) towards Etruria with its gas holder. Lock 36 is close to Stoke Road bridge over the A500 (Queensway) and canal. The lock is single width (7 foot 6 inches). The noticeboard on the right tells canal users that from here are five locks to the Summit Lock in Etruria, raising the canal 50 feet.

The buildings on the towpath to the left belonged to Grimwade's Stoke Pottery. Immediately to the left of the canal is the main railway line north.
