Description:Showell's Brewery was erected in Copeland Street in 1864. The Birmingham based company were contractors to HM Forces, produced the celebrated Crosswell's Ale. The brewery was on the north side of Copeland Street and backed onto the Trent & Mersey Canal. By the mid 1930s the site had ceased to be a brewery, had other uses (e.g. Emery's builders' merchants) and in the 1970s the north side of Copeland Street was demolished to make way for the A500 (Queensway).
