Description:The sign over the entrance yard reads "Robert Hyde & Son Ltd. North Stafford Steel Foundry", a company founded in 1910. The City Road foundry was originally the North Staffordshire Railway Locomotive, Carriage and Wagon works, until it became part of the Robert Hyde group in 1928. Beyond the foundry and the British Board Company's Midland Carton Works is the bridge taking City road over the Trent & Mersey Canal. The site today is part of Hyde Park industrial estate and John Hyde Engineering Ltd.
