Description:The photograph shows the date tablet for the Independent Chapel, built in 1819. The tablet is on the side of the chapel in Middle Cross Street. Today it is part of the Longton Community Church. This chapel resulted from a secession from the parish church after the departure of a minister. The Independent Chapel opened in 1820 with a membership of 17. By 1841, the Sunday School had over 200 attendees. The present chapel building on Caroline Street was built in 1905.
