Date:August 1964

Description:This is a view north along Highgrove Road from its junction with Rookery Lane. The road was originally Grove Road but was renamed, in the 1950s, after the local High Grove House, the home of John Arlidge (Newcastle doctor) and Charles Elphinstone (Hanley theatre owner). The short terrace and semi-detached houses date from between the wars.
Apart from detail differences, the houses remain much as they were photographed in 1964, although many of the front gardens have been radically altered.
