Description:Earthenware jug, bowls, cover and salt with trailed decoration. Height of salt 80mm. Slip-trailing was achieved by using a slip-bottle, filled with slip. The opening was sealed with a clay plug through which a quill was pushed. The potter blew through the spout of the slip-bottle, producing a thin trail of slip onto the pot. The potter could manipulate the bottle to produce squiggles, curves and dots. Often two or more quills were used to apply motifs simultaneously. The jug, bowls, cover and salt were excavated at Burslem Market Place in 1998.
