Description:Jasper plaques150mm x 120mm.This pair of blue jasper plaques (on the left) with busts in white relief, depict a woman with her hands clasped and an anguished man. The man and woman are probably Werther and Charlotte from the novel 'The Sorrows of Young Werther', by Goethe (1749-1832), which was published in 1774.The novel mirrored Geothe's affair with Charlotte Buff, a friend's fiancée. In the book Werther commits suicide, but Goethe escaped his problems by running away. The plaques have an Enoch Wood impressed mark underneath.Jasper plaques150mm x 120mm. Made 1784-1792. On the right is a jasper and caneware plaque,350mm x 235mm.Hercules was a hero of Greek mythology, who was driven mad by Hera and killed his own family. To expiate this crime he undertook twelve labours, which included bringing the three-headed dog Cerberus from the underworld.The plaque has an Enoch Wood impressed mark underneath.1784-1792
