Description:Porcelain vase with celadon glaze, by Bullers of Milton.

Bullers was set-up in the 1860s and by the early 20th century the firm had established an international reputation in the manufacture of industrial ceramics. In 1920 the company moved from its site in Joiner's Square, Hanley, to new, larger premises in Milton. In 1934 a collaboration between Gordon Forsyth, Superintendent of Art Education for the City of Stoke-on-Trent and Guy Harris, the chemist for Bullers, resulted in the opening of an art pottery studio at Bullers. The studio was initially led by Anne Potts (only 16 when she took on the role) until 1939 and then by Agenete Hoy from 1940 until 1952 when the studio was closed for financial reasons and after the loss of key personnel. The company was later consolidated into Allied Insulators, which ceased production at Milton in 2001.
