The pub, at Consall Forge, Staffordshire, was built to serve workers in the local limestone industry that was carried on in the Churnet Valley during the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
This industry was mailny quarrying and burning; the large lime kilns standing opposite the pub.
Consall station is just 150 metres away, with railway workers' houses there.
The pub is still a popular stop-off for people using the railway and canal. It is difficult to get to by road.
